MEMORY LOSS

What motivates you? What happens when your mind wants to conquer the world but, your body begins to fail you? What happens when you start having memory loss yet your career requires countless hours of memorization? As an actress, producer and writer these are things I struggle with daily. Not only due to my history of eating disorders for over thirty years but, my diagnosis of Systemic Scleroderma.

One of the most important things I’ve learned since my diagnosis Scleroderma is LIFE WILL GO ON WITH OR WITHOUT ME! I also learned that no matter what I am going through...someone else   is suffering far greater pain and uncertainty in their life.

WE MUST GET UP, DRESS UP & FULLFILL OUR INDIVIDUAL PURPOSE IN LIFE!!

Often times things don’t appear how they look on the outside at first glance.

For instance...when I was cast in the role of Mary in the film Before The Border. I had just undergone chemotherapy two days prior to showing up on set in Pittsburgh. I recieved a call, auditioned and was cast within 24 hours I was on set. I didn’t have much time to think about how I was feeling or the lack of ability to memorize my lines. “I was a wreck!” I was less then confident. I obsessed over memorizing my lines all while on the verge of feeling like I was going to pass out.

My cast members had no idea what I was going through. As a professional it was important to maintain a positive work environment our team created on set. I found it to be helpful to dive into other peoples stories. What were they going through? This helped me tremendously. It lifted my spirits. I gained so much wisdom and understanding from my fellow cast

mates. Athough it was a challenge for me...I grew for pushing myself when I could’ve just given up and not taken the role.

So, today being motivation monday...I ask you to remind yourself you are not alone. You are only alone if you make that choice. Take a moment and ask others how they are doing. Smile at a stranger and see how it lifts your spirits!

JUST DO IT!!!

Have a great day!
Keep smiling😊

The Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA) is a federal law that generally prevents group health plans and health insurance issuers that provide mental health or substance use disorder (MH/SUD) benefits from imposing less favorable benefit limitations on those benefits than on medical/surgical benefits. MHPAEA originally applied to group health plans and group health insurance coverage and was amended by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (collectively referred to as the “Affordable Care Act”) to also apply to individual health insurance coverage.

#WISDOM WEDNESDAY

#wednesdaywisdom
As an author to a MEMOIR/SELF HELP book, my mission and on all my social media platforms is to inspire individuals to find hope in helpless situations. After writing for well over twenty years the knowledge I've gained through watching my family suffer with addiction and eating disorders has allowed me to share my story from a unique perspective. The wisdom I've gained was granted through my faith, compassion and willingness to never give up on helping those in need. As we all go through life, it is human nature to long for a purpose. Today I challenge you to dive deeper into your personal lives and take the knowledge you've gained and combine that with the wisdom you've been so fortunate enough to experience and take a moment to smile at a stranger. See how that makes you feel. You never know what might be going on in their life. With that being said...I want to share this story with you. The wisdom of this beautiful little girl will blow your mind. Today is a new day! Keep Smiling! https://youtu.be/AvyaM4CIagc

DEVELOPMENTAL THEORY EMBODIMENT

Developmental Theory Embodiment

What are your physical and emotional strengths? It is our job as parents to help our children to embody a sense of emotional and physical strength. Far too often we focus too much on how we look on the outside and forget about how to teach our children to focus on being the best version of who they are capable of being emotionally and physically. How we look is simply a small component of who we are. Developing Embodiment fits extraordinarily well with the most current and valuable research about the importance of being active and physically engaged in our bodies as it relates to how we experience ourselves. This is called the “Developmental Theory of Embodiment,” and was created by Dr. Niva Piran a Clinical Psychologist who has given her life to researching the prevention of eating disorders, body image and how individuals can come to love to be fully engaged in who they are in their bodies. This helps us get further in touch with our bodies and prevent eating disorders. As women we don’t have to just hate or love how our body looks, but we can also enjoy being in it.

In this theory Piran lays out the importance of three concepts that influence a girls or women’s ability to be embodied. Mental freedom, social power and the third is the experience of physical power are important in preventing the on set of an eating disorder. This just like our thoughts and social and relational context, is just as important for us to have healthy relationships with our bodies as our thoughts.

Physical freedom includes being comfortable with our physical desires, appetites and changes that comes with age. This means we don’t beat ourselves up for feeling hungry, or how our skin looks or changes with age, but embrace them as part of the story of our self and body in the world.

Imagine the gift you would be giving to yourself and future generations if you better understood how important it was to recognize the value in the Developmental Theory. How might someone you know struggling with an eating disorder change the direction of their recovery by better understanding mental, social and physical freedom of which should have been taught prior to puberty.

I can tell you as someone who came from a family of a century of eating disorders, my life would look very different.

While doing some last-minute research for my book, I came a crossed a disheartening statistic that made me sit back for a few moments. While I struggled for a few decades… so did my family and friends.
I read that 8.4 million caregivers support people with mental illness spending 32 hours a week providing care for their loved ones. I was reminded of the difficult journey so many of us have been on who have struggled with eating disorders, addiction and other mental illness.
This inspires me every day to continue to educate myself and others to seek new ways to be inspired. And yes…I was once again inspired by an amazing woman her name is Becky Henry who wrote an amazing book called Just Tell Her To Stop. As I began reading Becky’s book, I thought to myself…why did it take so long for a book like this to be written?
If only I had a book like Just Tell Her To Stop maybe I wouldn’t have struggled for 30 years. In Becky’s book she shares stories of families and how eating disorders affected their lives. The gift in sharing their stories I believe without a doubt will give  families hope to navigate what often feels like a dead-end fight in helping their loved ones overcome their personal struggles.  May you find peace in your ability to educate yourself, remain strong in unity with your family and persevere on your personal journey! Keep smiling!!

Praying for each and every person struggling with an eating disorder! Giving thanks...Keep smiling:)
